WAVELAND, MS (WLOX) -

BAY ST. LOUIS, MS (WLOX) - Waveland Mayor Tommy Longo will be in court Thursday to enter a plea on embezzlement charges.

Longo was arrested in January, charged with using public money for his personal use. His attorney Don Rafferty told WLOX News that Mayor Longo will plead not guilty to the charges.

A Hancock County grand jury indicted Longo following an investigation by the State Auditor's office. Longo is accused of using the Fuelman gas card issued for his city vehicle to buy fuel for a personal vehicle. The indictment alleges Longo made the illegal purchases from October 2008 until September 2009 totaling more than $1,100.

At the time of his arrest, State Auditor Stacey Pickering said Longo had to repay the city $21,000 for using a city owned vehicle for personal use in 2000.

Longo will be in Hancock County Circuit Court for an arraignment at 9 a.m. Thursday.
