Construction forensic team could be called to Grass Lawn

GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) -

GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) - Work is all but complete for Grass Lawn, however a building problem is holding up the opening of the Gulfport landmark replica.

According to City Spokesman Ryan LaFontaine, the historic building can't open because the cyprus planks on the porches are starting to buckle. The city is trying to determine who is responsible for the problem, and until then the building will not open.

According to LaFontaine, the city is considering hiring a construction forensic team to figure out who is going to pay for the faulty floorboards.

In the meantime, $80,000 is being withheld from the contractor on the project, C Perry Builders, until the matter can be resolved.
