The Mississippi Surge goes for the President's Cup Championship

BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - Tonight The Mississippi Surge hits the ice in search of another hockey league championship trophy for South Mississippi.

In May of 1999, the Mississippi Sea Wolves of the ECHL captured the Kelly Cup Championship. Now the Mississippi Surge is trying to win the SPHL President's Cup Championship.

It all starts at 7:30 this evening inside the Mississippi Coast Coliseum when the Surge goes head to head with the Huntsville Havoc in game one of the best of five President's Cup Championship.

Mississippi Surge's Steffon Walby, the SPHL's Coach of the Year, molded together a cohesive hockey team, an expansion team that blew past the opposition, including 7 wins in 8 games against the Havoc during the regular season.

Surge Goaltender Bill Zaniboni says Coach Walby and team unity made a huge impact.

When the Havoc and Surge clash, Mississippi defenseman Ryan Bartle will sit out game one. The SPHL suspended Bartle for actions in game four against Columbus.
