D'IBERVILLE, MS (WLOX) - A clinic offering free help to meet healthcare needs on the coast held a grand opening Sunday. The D'Iberville Free Clinic celebrated its newly renovated location off Big Ridge Road.

Volunteers and patients gathered as the clinic opened its doors to celebrate more than five years of service to the community.

Dr. Francis J. Selman said, "It's just so rewarding, were able to take care of people that really have no means to take care of themselves. I see a lot of people that are in desperate need of help."

Staffed by eight volunteers, the clinic that first began underneath a tent after Katrina now calls this building home.

Officer Manager Beverly Squibb said, "We have one that works in the med dispense room, one that helps work on triages, check in just whatever jobs that are needed to be done."

The clinic is run by donations only, so to get the new facility up and running new flooring, furniture and medical equipment had to be installed.

"Now we've been able to add another dental chair our dentist now can see more patients he can see twice as many he was seeing four patients here now he can see up to eight," said Office Manager Beverly Squibb.

The clinic also houses two exam rooms where retired physician Francis J. Selman practices two days per week.

"I'm inspired by the people that come from all over the country that work here and give up a lot of their time and energy," said Dr. Francis J. Selman.

"Anyone can come in to see the doctor, they just need there id and walk through the door we don't ask any qualifications about income or about anything," said Office Manager Beverly Squibb.

The clinic is open Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

To join the "adopt a Patient program" to help the clinic stay open you can call 228-396-5876. If 100 donors participate, clinic managers say the clinic will be able to continue serving the community for one year.
