DELISLE, MS (WLOX) - It's been nearly two months since the Marsha Barbour Resource and Community Center opened on Kiln-Delisle Road. The people who use the center are grateful it's here. The swimming pool at the Marsha Barbour Community Center is the biggest draw.

"This is a fantastic place to swim, great staff and just a beautiful facility. It's a treasure," said Waveland resident Jo Rusin.

Rusin discovered the center a few weeks ago and now drives from Waveland almost every day to use it.

"This is the only public facility in our area. And I measured it today, from Main Street and Highway 90 in Bay St. Louis, it's less than ten miles. A beautiful drive up here."

Amelia Simpson travels from Long Beach. The LSU college student came to swim three times during her Spring Break this week.

"I think it's a really great facility. And I'm glad I learned about it cause I'm just getting to swim in it. And it's nice to be able to come here and swim when I want to when I'm home," Simpson said.

The pool is just part of what the Marsha Barbour community center offers.

"We have an outdoor classroom. We have the NBA Cares basketball court, which was actually sponsored by the NBA. We have a Kaboom playground for younger children. We have a computer lab," said Ella Dedeaux, Executive Director of the Marsha Barbour Community Center.

The fitness center is another popular attraction.

"They can utilize that part of the facility 24 hours a day. We have young men and women from the high school that come in the afternoon and they utilize the basketball court that we have. We do have a GED class offered right now. We have after school help for students. It's a wonderful place. They're glad to have something on this side of Harrison County, accessible also to Hancock County, " Dedeaux said.

Center leaders are in the process of conducting a survey to find out if the center is meeting the needs of the community. They also want to know what type of programs residents want held at the facility.
