Grammy winner to speak at education center fundraiser

GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) - Grammy Award winner and motivational speaker Joel Kibble will share his inspirational message with people in South Mississippi Saturday at the Gala Fundraiser for Ja'Bez Educational Learning Center.

Ja'Bez Educational Learning Center is a non-profit organization that opened in August 2007. The school educates and provides nutrition for underserved, single parent, predominately African American children ranging in ages 3-5 years old.

The Gala Fundraiser is Saturday at 5 p.m. at the Good Deeds Community Center on Madison Ave. in Gulfport. Kibble will be the keynote speaker at the event.

Kibble is a motivational speaker, singer, songwriter, producer and member of the ten time Grammy Award winning group Take 6. He was born in Buffalo, NY, but spent his formative years in Alabama. 

Ja'Bez Educational Learning Center currently has 38 students. Mrs Eula Crowell, a retired educator, is the Executive Director and has 28 years of teaching experience. She taught kindergarten through second grade for the Biloxi School System

The Mississippi State curriculum is being utilized to prepare the students for the next academic level. Learning is achieved through the utilization of personal instruction, individual learning centers, computers, whole group instruction, educational games, and enrichment activities. The philosophy of JELC is to help students develop a positive self-concept and help increase educational skills and competencies in; oral language, literacy, writing, listening and thinking, achieve educational growth and enlarge his/her world view. The immediate goals are to continue to educate the children and empower parents to take an active role in the future of their children's academic future.
