Hancock County murder trial delayed six months

HANCOCK COUNTY, MS (WLOX) -

HANCOCK COUNTY, MS (WLOX) - A Hancock County man scheduled to go on trial for murder will get six more months to prepare his case.

Michael Burks is accused of the July 2007 shooting death of Gary Joiner. His trial was slated to start Monday, but a judge allowed Burks' new attorney, Jimmy McQuire, to familiarize himself with the case.

Burks' original attorney, Albert Necaise, filed a motion asking to withdraw from representing him.

The case is now scheduled for trial October 4, 2010.
