JACKSON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) – A local church invited the entire community to celebrate Easter with them at the Jackson County Civic Center.  Music, dancing, drama and preaching were all part of Church on the Rock's community-wide Easter service.  More than 1,000 people from all walks of life filed into the civic center for the event.  Church members say they look forward to the Sunday service every year, so they can welcome in new people who might not otherwise have a place to go on Easter Sunday.

"A lot of times people who maybe don't attend church regularly, but they're looking for somewhere to go on Easter Sunday," explained Pastor Rodger Bradley.  "But this is a great neutral location."

The church also aimed its service at people of all different walks of life.  Skits, dances and a band all added to a lively worship service.

"We've been called a church for people who don't like church," said Bradley.  "I don't know whether that's a good thing or a bad thing, but we like it.  It's very casual.  You don't have to dress up.  You don't have to have Easter clothes if you don't want to wear that.  A lot of people you'll see really casual, but we just have a great time together."

The service attracted a mixed crowd.  Church members said the diversity among those who attend is one of the reasons they look forward to the service all year.

"Jesus died for us," said Eugene "Coach Tick" Mosley.  "He didn't die for no particular color, he died for everybody.  So I enjoy church on the rock because people come here from, you got lawyers sitting next to homeless people."

Church on the Rock is located on Chicot Rd. in Pascagoula.  The church welcomes between 700 and 800 people on an average Sunday.
