OCEAN SPRINGS, MS (WLOX) - The Ocean Springs Harbor house is a month away from construction, according to county officials. District 5 Supervisor John McKay told WLOX, FEMA just approved the second phase of the project, giving the county a green light to start building.

The building will be constructed in two phases. The first will be the foundation and elevation requirements. The actual office makes up the second phase. The price tag for the new facility is approximately $829,000 and is expected to take about 11 months to complete.

The Ocean Springs Harbor office has been operating out of a trailer since Hurricane Katrina. McKay said other improvements around the harbor could also begin this year. They include building a new pier on Front Beach and replacing the bulkhead along Harbor Road, a project McKay said is desperately needed.

"A lot of this old harbor bulkheading is about to fall apart," said McKay. "It's molded, it's caving in, so whenever we get through, we'll actually have a new harbor house, new bulkheading, new piers. And we'll have a brand new 1,250 ft. pier on Front Beach."
