BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - With school out, Spring Break can be an ideal time for a family getaway. Some of those folks have chosen to come to the Mississippi Gulf Coast.

A group of Delgado Community College students said after months of hitting the books, they were ready to hit the beach in Biloxi for Spring Break.

"It feels so good," Tamika Turner said. "We work so hard and we're about to graduate, so this is like a little getaway."

The students said since they didn't want to drive very far from New Orleans, Biloxi was the perfect vacation spot.

"You get to be able to hang out with your friends in open, go swimming and get a tan," said Tee Jay Jones.

Spring Breakers named everything from positive reviews of the coast to the chance to visit family who live in the area as what drew them. Whatever the reason, people we talked with said they were glad they came.

Jennifer Breve came from Louisiana with her mother and sister.

"Because of the beach," Breve said. "It's a beautiful day. Spring Break. No school. The beach is a great place to be at."

"It's so relaxing," said Mary Marsh of Chicago. "We love the water and the sun and just being in the South where it's a little more laid back."

This week Biloxi Tour Train owner August Taconi started his first full season running tours from the light house since Hurricane Katrina. He's optimistic it's going to be a great run.

"I've seen more people on this beach this week than I've seen in a very long time," said Taconi. "Most of them are from right around the regional area like Mississippi and Louisiana. I'm looking forward to a good weekend maybe on Friday or Saturday. From talking to my friends at the attractions, it looks like we're going to have a good season."

Some beach venders said Spring Break business has been slow so far, but they're expecting a big rush starting Friday as people begin their long Easter weekend.
