New Keesler housing among the best in the air force

Adequate housing is something all of us want to see in South Mississippi. That also includes housing for our military families. Keesler Air Force Base recently finished building more than a thousand new homes for permanent personnel stationed at the base.

If you can remember what the old housing looked like before Hurricane Katrina devastated the coast, you know it is a big improvement. Now when military personnel are assigned to Keesler, the families will have the most modern housing found anywhere in the air force.

This is so important to the serviceman and woman who often must leave their families behind while they are stationed overseas, often in a war zone. They leave knowing the family has a solid roof over its head. This new housing has to be a morale booster for all of the Air Force personnel serving on the Gulf Coast.

We are proud that the houses were constructed by a Mississippi contractor, Yates Construction which has an office in Biloxi. During the past two years, Yates completed almost one and a half houses per day. No doubt this, plus other recent construction projects at Keesler, makes it one of the most modern Air Force Bases in America.

That's our opinion, we would like to hear yours. Email your thoughts to editorials@wlox.com, or post your comments below.
