Getting Ready for the Champions Tour

BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - The staff at Fallen Oak Golf Course is in high gear, getting ready to host one of the biggest sporting events ever held in South Mississippi.

The Mississippi Gulf Resort Classic golf tournament will bring the PGA Tour's Champions Tour to Beau Rivage's premier golf course. "We're working hard to prepare the course for the Pros" says Matt Hughes, Fallen Oaks' Director of Grounds keeping.

The event will provide Fallen Oak and South Mississippi's tourism and golf industries with valuable exposure. That spotlight is particularly important because the rest of the country will see that the coast is recovering from  Katrina.

"It shows that the coast is open for business. It's a great golfing destination down here and we want to show it to the world" says Fallen Oak's Director of Golf David Stinson.

Stinson thinks fans will enjoy seeing the colorful line up of Champions Tour players scheduled to play in the Mississippi Gulf resort Classic "These are the guys we watched growing up. It'll be fun watching them play in our own backyard".

Fallen Oaks prides itself in maintaining tour quality conditions throughout the year so Matt Hughes says very little will have to be done to the course to get it ready for the pros "The rough might be a little thicker and we'll make sure the greens are quick".

The Tom Fazio designed golf course should challenge the players on the Champions Tour with it's elevation changes, diabolical sand traps and undulating greens.

The event runs April 28th through May 2nd and will be shown on the Golf Channel.
