Is Black Spring Break returning to South Mississippi?

BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - Is Black Spring Break returning to the Mississippi Coast? Right now the answer seems to be "maybe."

A company called Pinnacle Promotions is pushing the proposal on Facebook. The web page refers to it as a "non stop party with a vast array of events."  It also indicates that a portion of the proceeds will go to earthquake devastated Haiti.

Our attempts to reach the promoter were not successful.

Back in 2000, Black Spring Break first came to South Mississippi. The coast was overwhelmed by the number of people who showed up.

"We did not know it was coming, it just blindsided us," Biloxi Mayor A.J. Holloway said.

Mayor Holloway emphasized that his city and others on the coast welcome visitors, but he wants to make sure what happened in 2000 doesn't happen again. That's why next week several local law enforcement agencies will get together to make contingency plans.

It is hard to plan for something that may or may not happen. Mayor Holloway said the city has not been contacted by the promoter. He added that to his knowledge, no city facilities have been booked and there is no indication that a large number of rooms are being booked at local hotels and motels.

A few years ago, this same internet speculation began that Black Spring Break was returning to the coast, but it never happened. Will it come back this year? Right now nobody seems to know for sure.
