Northrop considers going back to 5 day work week

PASCAGOULA, MS (WLOX) - Northrop Grumman Shipbuilding-Gulf Coast is considering returning to a five day a week work schedule. Employees currently work in four, 10 hours shifts each week.

Vice President and General Manager Irwin F. Edenzon sent a letter to employees Wednesday, saying, "There has been a lot of speculation over the past two years about changing our work schedule."

Edenzon said that the evaluation "is based on our responsibility to continually evaluate all factors that impact our business."

"Future U.S. Navy and U.S. Coast Guard shipbuilding plans provide NGSB-GC with many opportunities to continue our tradition of building great ships. In order to reach our potential, we must address the productivity and quality improvement challenges that come with being the best at what we do."

Employees switched to the four day work week in 2004.
