PASCAGOULA, MS (WLOX) – More than 100 South Mississippi suppliers are hoping to pick up new business at Jackson County's annual Industrial Trade Show.

Inside the noisy, packed Jackson County Civic Center, were eager entrepreneurs and suppliers on every row, ready to do business.  They're showing off all their new merchandise and handing out business cards to catch the attention of potential buyers.

"You get to meet the people who are the movers and shakers of Jackson County," Moss Point Business Owner Scott Right said about the trade show.

All the suppliers' equipment that couldn't fit inside was set up outside, along with a few extra people. Organizers said there are twice as many people this year than last year.

"In today's environment and the economical conditions it's more important than ever to come out and make those contacts," Organizer Trudy Dixon said.

Joey Whatley said he definitely needs all the business he can get.  He said since 2009, the faltering economy has caused business to drop off nearly 50 percent.

"We are one of the only ones out there that are doing security cameras, so it is going be hard," Whatley said.

Brent Elmer's Ocean Springs staffing company has also seen better days. He's been working vigorously to publicize the company's name.

"It's troubling times, so we're trying," Elmer said about the state of the economy.

Suppliers say a major benefit of this event is it brings small companies and larger industries, such as Chevron and Northrop Grumman. under one roof.

"There are so many possibilities with all these people coming around. One new client will make a world of difference," Elmer said.

That positive feeling was echoed by many of the suppliers who expect the trade show to help get the revenue flowing back to their businesses.  The trade show continues Tuesday, March 24, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Jackson County Civic Center in Pascagoula.
