House filled with belongings uncovered in Hancock County marsh

BAY ST. LOUIS, MS (WLOX) -

BAY ST. LOUIS, MS (WLOX) - A house that was washed away by Hurricane Katrina has been found in a Hancock County marsh.

The home once stood on Second Street in Bay St. Louis. Volunteers found the roof intact while cleaning the marsh this week. They also discovered the rest of the framework.

The home was filled with belongings that have been in the marsh for four and a half years. Items that could be salvaged are being returned to the homeowner, who moved from Bay St. Louis after the storm.

Volunteers are also working to remove the potentially hazardous items like refrigerators or freezers.

Al Showers spent Friday with the team removing items from the home and will have more on this story today on WLOX News at 6pm and WLOX.com.
