PEARL RIVER COUNTY, MS (WLOX) -

POPLARVILLE, MS (WLOX) - The man arrested for a Pearl River County murder, then released by a judge is now back in jail. The family of Randy Prince told WLOX News Tuesday that the U.S. Marshals Service arrested Virgil Matthews, Junior in Indiana Monday.

Matthews, of Poplarville, was indicted last month for Prince's murder in the July shooting.

Neither the Marshals, nor Pearl River County authorities will confirm an arrest until an indictment is served on Matthews. But officials in Marion County, Indiana confirmed to WLOX News that Matthews is being held there by the U.S. Marshals on a murder warrant out of Pearl River County.

Last summer, the NAACP organized a protest outside the courthouse in Poplarville, after Matthews was released from jail one day after being arrested for Prince's murder.

Justice Court Judge Nell Cowart released Matthews citing insufficient evidence to charge him with a crime. Cowart would not comment on why Matthews was released.

Last month, a Pearl River County grand jury issued an indictment against Matthews. Matthews is expected to be brought back to Mississippi later this week.
