St. Patrick's Day in Biloxi

BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - The 32nd Annual Hibernia Marching Society's St. Patrick's Parade rolled in Biloxi on a beautiful Sunday afternoon.

The sun was shining down on a sea of green in Biloxi. It was much like the Mardi Gras atmosphere minus the purple and gold. There were still throngs of people begging for beads.

Grand Marshall Billy Hewes and Colleen Sarah Grant Holliman lead this year's parade in a horse drawn carriage. There were 42 units, including 30 floats, military units, marching groups and a band, the Biloxi High band.

The Hibernia Marching Society holds their annual parade to promote interest in Irish Heritage and to develop a greater appreciation for Irish Culture.

A large crowd from young to old enjoyed every moment and came from all over the south.

Theresa Capers is visiting from Pittsview, Alabama.

"It's been wonderful. The weather is great! The food was good; everything's been great," Capers said.

Local coast folks were having a big time, too.

"I'm having a large time, with all this pretty weather," said Pascagoula resident Alma Heyett. "I'm having the best time. My cousins come in from out of town and have had a very good time. It's a good family day."

The winners of this years parade are:

  • Small Float: Krewe of Kommotion
  • Large Float: Just Us Lounge
  • Marching Group: Old Biloxi Marching Club
  • President's Choice: Dixie Dazzlers of Pascagoula
