OCEAN SPRINGS, MS (WLOX) - The body of Ocean Springs police officer Stephen Bond is finally coming home. Bond's parents and fellow officers will escort him from Baton Rouge to Ocean Springs Thursday afternoon.

Bond died in May after a boating accident. Bond was out with four friends when the boat capsized near Horn Island during a storm. The Coast Guard rescued everyone but Bond, who was the only one of the four without a life jacket.

Friends and fellow officers spent days searching the Mississippi Sound for the 32-year-old former Marine.

In January, a fishing crew spotted remains at the north end of the Chandeleur Islands. Authorities in St. Bernard Parish used dental records to identify the remains as Bond.

Stephen Bond was married and had two young children. A public funeral is scheduled for 1pm Saturday, March 20 at Bradford O'Keefe Funeral Home in Ocean Springs.
