Help cleanup South Mississippi - - The News for South Mississippi

Help cleanup South Mississippi

Most of us are beginning to get spring fever. We want to go outside, enjoy the warmer weather and start sprucing up our yards. As we do, we should all take a look around our community. How does it look? It is free of litter? Are you proud of how your neighborhood looks? I am afraid that many of us would not be able to answer, "yes."

We are about to mark, five years since Hurricane Katrina ravaged South Mississippi. That seems like it should be long enough for us to get rid of any eyesores left by the storm. Many cities, have adopted that attitude and are working hard to remove leftover Katrina blight. But the cities cannot do it alone. Each of us needs to help, and make sure our own neighborhoods are free of trash and litter.

Too often, visitors who come to our area comment on the litter they see on our roads and highways. If we want to be a place where tourists come and enjoy our beauty, we need to work to keep the coast clean and beautiful.

Many organizations will hold cleanup projects in the coming weeks. We urge everyone to volunteer a few hours to help clean up our Mississippi Gulf Coast.

That's our opinion, we would like to hear yours. Email your thoughts to, or post your comments below.
