MOSS POINT, MS (WLOX) – An Alabama couple died Tuesday afternoon in an accident on Interstate 10 near mile marker 68. It happened in the eastbound lane around 3:00 Tuesday afternoon, just west of Hwy 613 in Moss Point, at the foot of the Pascagoula River Bridge.

Jackson County Coroner Vicky Broadus identified the victims as Troy Porter, 40, and his wife Jennifer Porter of Saraland, Alabama.

Several others were injured in the pileup, although the exact number of injuries has not been confirmed.

Standstill traffic stretched 15 miles behind a fatal Moss Point accident scene and drivers as far away as Biloxi reported traffic troubles.

More than an hour after the multiple-car pileup, a wrecked pickup truck and an 18 wheeler were in plain view. A wrecker pulled a small red car out of the woods beside the highway.

An officer on the scene told WLOX the eastbound nightmare actually began in the westbound lane, when the pickup truck lost control and flew into the median, crashing into the small car.

Gautier Police rerouted incoming traffic down Hwy 57 to Hwy 90 as officers from several different agencies cleaned up the mess left behind.

By 5pm the accident was cleared, and by 6pm traffic was running smoothly again.
