BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - Steffon Walby has proven his coaching capabilities in taking a new franchise in the S-P-H-L and turning the Surge into one of the league's elite hockey teams.

The Surge are sizzling having ripped off 14 wins, one defeat and one overtime lost in the last 16 games.

Mississippi goalie Bill Zaniboni says Walby makes playing for the Surge...fun, "He makes sure we're ready and he understands that we are professionals so we do our job. He prepares us to the best for the weekend that we have coming up. He makes sure that we're on top of everything on ice, off ice, making sure we're doing all the right things."@

When it comes to goal tending, Zaniboni stands out among S-P-H-L goalies. The 3rd year pro from Plymouth, Massachusetts has compiled a 19-5 and 4 record, giving up only 2.68 goals per game.

That ranks second in the league. His saves stand at an impressive 0.916 percent, having stopped 825 shots on goal.

Why has the Surge surged out in front of the pack in the S-P-H-L standings?

Zaniboni says, "I think we keep everything pretty loose in here. We're a pretty tight group of guys. We like to have fun but we know we have a job to do every night. I think our mind set is pretty focused and we hold each other pretty accountable pretty well."@

Offensively, Michael Richard is fourth in the league with 65 points, one point better then teammate Matt Zultek. Walby has the offense and defense clicking at the right time, on the heels of the SPHL playoffs.
