Former heart surgeon faces new drug charges

PASCAGOULA, MS (WLOX) - The former Jackson County heart surgeon arrested on drug charges last year, has been indicted.

Dr. David Allen was indicted by the Jackson County Grand Jury on three counts: Manufacture of a Controlled Substance, Possession of a Controlled Substance, and Transfer of a Controlled Substance.

The indictment was signed in January, but just released Monday by the Jackson County Circuit Court.

In March 2009, Allen was arrested in California on charges of cultivating and selling marijuana. Officials say Allen grew the pot on his 50 acre piece of property off Highway 613 in Jackson County.

Back in December, Allen was charged with six felony charges which include attempting to bribe and intimidate witnesses in the case.
