JACKSON, MS (WLOX) - Bay High Head Coach Kelton Thompson is celebrating the Tigers first-ever 4A State Championship.  The Tigers made a furious 4th period comeback to upend St. Stanislaus by 12 points.

St. Stanislaus headed into the locker room leading 16 to 9 in a slow down game. The Rockachaws increased their lead 26 to 19 after three quarters.

The Tigers clawed their way back and charged out in front, outscoring the Rockachaws 32 to 13 in the 4th quarter. Daron Bell and company got the job done in this the 5th head-to-head confrontation between the two crosstown rivals.  St. Stanislaus beat Bay High in the first two games, the Tigers won the last two, before extending their win streak over the Rockachaws to three consecutive games, none bigger than Friday's title showdown.

It was bitter sweet for Bay High coach Kelton Thompson who beat his former mentor, St. Stanislaus head coach Jay Ladner.

"It was tough," Thompson said. "Ladner showed me the ropes and my success began under Jay's leadership, but it was a great team effort by my players and assistant coaches."

The Tigers close out a super 2009-2010 season with 34 wins and only three losses.  The Rockachaws end the year at 26-7.

WLOX will have complete analysis and reaction of Bay High's win Saturday at 5:30 and 10pm.
