Starkville stings Biloxi with a second half run ending the Indians 6A title hopes

JACKSON, MS (WLOX) - Biloxi held a four point advantage over Starkville at the break leading 31 to 27.  At one time in the second period the Indians jumped out to a 25 to 16 lead when Guy Payne when a spinning move to the bucket.

The highly talented Yellow Jackets would quickly erase the Indians four point halftime lead and dominated the remainder of the game.  Rashad Perkins a 6 foot 5 senior exploded.  He helped Starkville outscore Biloxi 39 to 20 in the second half.  The Southern Miss signee made a couple of crowd pleasing slams and ended play with 21 points, blocked 13 shots and pulled down 14 rebounds.  He was a man among boys.

Biloxi was led by Curtis Haynes.  The junior bagged 13 points.

Biloxi head coach Seber Windham said, "They were the better second half team. Unfortunately in high school basketball the first half is just a prelude, it's what you're going to get. We won the prelude and they won the best two quarters and that's why they deserve to move on to play for a state championship game."

The Indians close out the 2009-2010 season with 27 victories and 4 losses.  The Yellow Jackets picked up win number 27 against only 2 defeats.  Starkville awaits tonight's survivor between Meridian and Greenville-Weston.  The 6A State Title game is set for 8:30 Saturday night.
