BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - The Mississippi Surge have surged atop the Southern Professional Hockey League standings, taking two straight from Huntsville over the weekend, dropping the Havoc from first to third place in the league standings.

Coach Steffon Walby's Surge have responded in a positive way, making giant strides since the start of the season. Mississippi now has 58 points, three points in front of Fayetteville and four points a head of Huntsville.

Walby says his players know his system works and it has paid off in victories, "The guys are finally getting use to me. Finally getting use to a system, a complicated system. At the same time the guys have really bought into each other. The product on the ice is one of a family."

Walby also says when the Surge hit the ice, they give their all, "They really go out there and compete. Yet to have given up during a game and everyday that we go out on the ice our goal is to get one step closer to the ultimate goal. Right now we're in first place and our guys don't want to relinquish it."

The Surge have won 11 straight home games inside the Mississippi Coast Coliseum and will try extending the streak Friday night at 7:30.
