Evans charged with murder, held on $1M bond

HANCOCK COUNTY, MS (WLOX) - Timothy Nelson Evans, 52, is now charged with the murder of 70-year-old Wenda Holling. He's being held on a million dollar bond.

Evans was back in Hancock County Friday morning after being extradited from Florida. He was arrested at a motel in Lake City, Florida Wednesday.

Wenda Holling went missing January 5, 2010. Less than a month later, her body was found on a roadway in Harrison County.

Columbia County Sheriff's deputies said Evans admitted to the murder while in their custody.

"There was some concern about what we were doing, questions about whether an arrest was coming," said Chief Investigator Kenny Hurt, "but we had to make sure we had everything we need for this case. My investigators worked long hours on this and an arrest is only the half way point."

Evans is being held at the Pearl River County. A preliminary hearing is set for March 23, 2010.

"The continuing cooperation with Harrison County and the help of the Marshal's Service and Columbia County FL Sheriff's Dept. has brought us this far," said Sheriff Steve Garber. "We are also grateful for all the help from the citizens that were concerned for Ms. Holling. The public's calls and help with the search allowed our investigators to focus on other components of the search."
