BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - Two hours before Super Bowl XLIV kicked off in Miami, the power clicked off at the Palace Casino in Biloxi. An electrical short at 3:30 Sunday afternoon killed the power, forcing an evacuation of the property.
"At this point, we figure a mouse or something got into the main power box and crossed two contacts which resulted in a large short," Palace General Manager Keith Crosby said.
Biloxi Police and Fire arrived on the scene to secure the site while casino patrons and hotel guests were evacuated.
"We had guests in about 100 rooms and we moved them over to the hotel at Isle Casino."
According to Crosby, the evacuation was orderly and the casino is hoping insurance will cover business losses.
"The good thing is nobody was hurt. It's just a little speed bump and we'll move on."
Palace officials hope the parts arrive and repairs are made in time to reopen the hotel and casino by Monday night.
