Gulfport maps crime in city online

GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) - People in Gulfport can now track crime in their city online. The police department has started using a crime mapping service that will pinpoint where crimes are happening in the city.

"This new technology will further enhance the community oriented police efforts in Gulfport and stresses the idea that crime can be reduced by keeping the public well informed," said Chief Alan Weatherford.

The crime information will be displayed on a map that will be updated on a daily basis. The crime map will also display a 90-day history of crime information. Each crime on the map will also include a link to the Gulfport Police Department for citizens to offer anonymous tips to help police solve crime.

Citizens will also be able to sign up for email alerts about crimes occurring in their neighborhoods or other locations in Gulfport. All of the crime information can be accessed through the Gulfport Police Department website.
