HARRISON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) - With the slumping economy jobs are few and far between. More than 150 job opportunities are currently open for South Mississippians. Sunday a job fair was held at the Courtyard by Marriott in Gulfport to fill those positions.
You could find more than 50 people behind closed doors in the Coastal Ballroom hoping they will be the next to put on a Kohls nametag.
Kohls District Manager Milton Denton said, "We add 100 to 150 people new jobs to the community they will be hired locally, it's a great opportunity."
South Mississippians poured into the Courtyard by Marriott just in time for their interview.
"I told them I could do anything they need," said Bobby Whaley.
D'Iberville resident Bobby Whaley has been retired from the service for more than 15 years. He said with the economy down and jobs scarce it's time he goes back to work.
Bobby Whaley said, "Bills do not go down, your mortgage does just not quit on you and we've got to have an income."
Whaley said Kohls opening its doors is a win-win situation for the city and the people.
"We can use the taxes the tax base will be outstanding," said Bobby Whales.
Shane Cobb said, "And it's bringing more income to Mississippi."
There are more than 1,000 stores in the U.S. The store offers exclusive and national brand clothing along with accessories and home products.
"The community is going to be very happy with what they see," said Kohls District Manager Milton Denton.
Future Kohls employees will help stock and set the store for the grand opening in March. Kohls District Manager Milton Denton says once employees are hired, Kohls wants to get involved with volunteer work in the community.
