OCEAN SPRINGS, MS (WLOX) - Mardi Gras is almost here. Saturday the Ocean Springs Elks Parade kicked off the carnival season.
One family said, "Happy Mardi Gras!"
Hundreds of people lined the streets in Ocean Springs hoping to catch one thing.
Julie Burkett said, "Beads!"
Ocean Springs resident Elizabeth Deleon says she has been screaming the same thing for more than 30 years.
"Throw me something, mister," yelled Elizabeth Deleon.
Deleon said watching the Elks parade is a tradition she passed on to her daughter.
"Just like all the excitement and how everybody's here everybody has a good time," said Samantha Deleon.
You couldn't watch the parade without hearing chants for the Who Dat nation.
One family shouted, "Who Dat?!"
Saints fans and floats were easy to spot in the crowd.
Selena Deleon said, "Who Dat? Go Saints!"
Saints fans say the Mardi Gas Mambo wouldn't have been complete without a little black and gold. The Elks parade rolled through the historic district of Ocean Springs.
