Ocean Springs Mayor: Annexation Plans Will Proceed

Part of the area the city wants to take over includes St. Martin and Latimer. The Ocean Springs mayor says the commercial development along Highway 609, just north of the city, will give Ocean Springs a bigger tax base. But a judge presiding over the annexation case says the city filed its petition incorrectly and it is not valid. The mayor says he's disappointed.

"Even though we do disagree with his opinion on that we have to live by it so the city right now is in preparation of formulating a new petition ordinance and going to submit it back to the court. We're not detoured from the annexation process. I've spoke to our attorneys and even though like I say we're disappointed in the judge's ruling, we're gonna move forward," says Mayor Seren Ainsworth.

The judge's ruling is a victory for the citizens group that is trying to incorporate the same area that Ocean Springs wants. D'Iberville also wants to annex some of the land.
