HARRISON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) - Harrison County Coroner Gary Hargrove confirmed the remains found in a wooded area Tuesday evening have been positively identified as Wenda LaFern Holling.
Hargrove says he was able to positively identify Holling through the serial number on her hip replacement.
The cause of death has not been released, but Hargrove says her death is being investigated as a homicide.
He says it's hard to pinpoint how long she's been dead. Holling had been missing since early January.
Both the Hancock and Harrison County Sheriff's Departments are investigating the case.
Investigators said an autopsy got underway on a body found in Harrison County around 6:30 Tuesday evening. A county road crew found the body a little after 3:30 pm in a wooded area off Turan Road just west of Mississippi 67.
Major Ron Pullen, of the Harrison County Sheriff's Department, says the body was clothed. A crime technician collected numerous items of evidence near the body, according to Pullen.
