Ocean Springs takes restaurants online

OCEAN SPRINGS, MS  (WLOX) - Dining out in Ocean Springs just got a little bit easier for tech-savvy customers.  The chamber of commerce just launched a website, www.oceanspringseats.com. It features more than 100 of the city's restaurants and bars.

"Obviously with 104 restaurants and more coming, this has become a very integral part of the income, tax base for Ocean Springs," said Margaret Miller, Director of the Ocean Springs Chamber of Commerce. "So, we, particularly in these tough economic times, thought it was time for us to pitch in."

On the site you'll find general descriptions, pricing, coupons and specials at your fingertips.

"We will develop it," Miller said. "We're planning all sorts of specials and coupons, like the more you get on, the more information you get, that sort of thing. So we're keeping incredible records of the number of pages that are being seen, and the number of visits that are being made.  We're very happy with the results we've had in the last week."

Miller said the website has received more than 1,000 visits since it launched one week ago.  Although the Chamber of Commerce still uses tradition forms of promotion like billboards and pamphlets, Miller said she's thrilled to introduce this new venue for residents and visitors of Ocean Springs.

"Our young professionals and many others beyond that demographic use their computer, their phone for quick access to things, and we found it was necessary really to get on and to have our own website," Miller said.  "I think it's the first here on the coast and perhaps one of a few in the state of Mississippi."

Miller said the Chamber of Commerce hopes to promote the website around town and inside restaurants, as well.
