Police look for stolen guns after teen burglary in Pascagoula

PASCAGOULA, MS (WLOX) - A stash of semi-automatic weapons and three Playstation gaming devices were taken in a Pascagoula apartment burglary. The crime has landed five teenagers in jail.  Under arrest are Shawn Martin Jr. and Bendich Jenkins, both 17. Tywan Magee, 18,  Desmonn Lewis and  Marcus Peairs Jr., both 19, are also behind bars.

Pascagoula Police said they found a Glock semi-automatic pistol in the hands of one of the five teens arrested for burglary of an apartment.

"It is a pretty powerful gun," Captain Shannon Broom said while holding the recovered weapon.

Police said the teens kicked in a window to get inside the upstairs unit at the Granada Apartments on Chicot Street Tuesday afternoon.  Along with the Glock, police said the teens took several more powerful guns as well as video game systems.

"We are not sure what their purpose of stealing the guns was. I guess they are easy to sell," Broom said.

Police said they arrested one of the suspects, Shawn Martin, for burglary last year.  Captain Broom said investigators think 19-year-old Marcus Peairs Jr. is the likely ringleader of the teen group. He said Peairs is related to one of the tenants at the apartment and knew the weapons were there.

"What we were told is during the Christmas holidays he was in the apartment. I guess he had seen where some of the stuff was at or maybe saw all the stuff in the apartment."

Police believe there are still thousands of dollars worth of stolen guns from the apartment somewhere out on the street. Broom hopes tips from the community and the ongoing investigation will help police find the stolen weapons fast.

"It is extremely important to get these guns back," Broom said. "Any firearm in the wrong hands, whether it is a single shotgun or a semi-automatic, is very dangerous."
