LUCEDALE, MS (WLOX) - The American Red Cross is working with families in South Mississippi trying to find out about loved ones in Haiti. A Lucedale family is still waiting word on relatives in Haiti that they last spoke to just hours before the quake struck.
The International Red Cross has a website (http://www.icrc.org/familylinks) where families can register to find out information about loved ones in the area.
The Red Cross has already pledged a million dollars in initial relief to Haiti.
"It's what we experienced in Katrina, and exponentially worse," Paige Roberts with the American Red Cross said. "Search and rescue is the most important thing going on right now and getting food and water to those in need."
You can donate to the international relief effort in Haiti by calling 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767). You can also donate by texting HAITI to 90999. By doing so, a $10 donation to the Red Cross will appear on your cell phone bill.
