Pascagoula officers cleared in fatal shooting

PASCAGOULA, MS (WLOX) - Three Pascagoula police officers involved in a fatal shooting last year have been cleared of any wrongdoing. A Grand Jury has determined that the officers' actions were "justified" and "necessary self-defense."

Grady Wells, 55, was shot and killed on September 28, 2009 after attacking three officers with a machete, and trying to run over a fourth. Officer fired their weapons at Wells in two separate confrontations that day.

The officers involved were Captain Shannon Broom, Officers Lionel Bourgeois and Brian Alford.

Wells was in town spending time with his family because his Dad had recently died.

    Drew Bourgeois appeared in front of a Waveland judge Thursday for his preliminary hearing. The case was given to the grand jury, according to reports.
