Biloxi pharmacist's trial delayed until March 1

BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - The federal trial of Biloxi pharmacist Nick Tran will now start March first. It was supposed to begin next week.

Tran is accused of writing illegal prescriptions for narcotics. Federal judge Louis Guirola granted the continuance because of health problems with Tran's lawyer, David Morrison. Morrison has been removed from the case and a public defender will now represent Tran.

Tran is charged in a case that involved a husband-wife doctor team who practiced in a Division Street clinic next door to Tran's Pharmacy. The other three defendants in the case have pleaded guilty and await sentencing.

Last month, Tran's attorney filed a memorandum in federal court maintaining Tran is innocent and is only being prosecuted because he is Vietnamese.
