GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) - Heightened security measures are in place at airports across America and around the world after the attempted bombing of an airliner in Detroit on Christmas Day. The Department of Homeland Security has issued an orange security threat level.
"That means law enforcement and TSA personnel are taking steps to insure security," Gulfport Biloxi International Airport Director Bruce Frallic said.
The airport was pretty quiet Monday morning. Most of the attention is on major airports where international flights depart and arrive.
"Most of the delays are at the large airports where there is a concentration of people," Frallic said.
Gulfport's Jim Maguire left the Mississippi coast Monday morning en route to Atlanta where he was set to catch a flight to Germany. When asked if he was prepared for and comfortable with the ramped up security, Maguire said, "I'm okay with anything that makes it more safe to fly."
