HARRISON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) - Harrison County took emergency action this week to protect some neighborhoods from potential flooding.
Heavy rainfall last week caused part of a dam to erode. The dam is located off Canal Road between the Krystal Lake and Summerhaven subdivisions.
With more rain expected this week, the county cut a ditch through a section of the dam to lower the water level and ease pressure on the weakened structure.
"The amount of water that's in the lake could have caused some type of a potential flooding, flash flooding situation," Harrison County Emergency Management Director Rupert Lacy said. "So we had to relieve that tension immediately for this rain coming forth."
The county engineer said the developer and/or property owners may be responsible for repairing the damaged dam.
