WLOX's Al Showers honored with Crystal Wings

By WLOX Staff

HANCOCK COUNTY, MS (WLOX) - One of WLOX's own has received a big honor from the Soldiers' Angels organization. The non-profit group works to provide comfort and support to the men and women of our Armed Forces.

We recently told you about the group's work in Hancock County, as they teamed up with members of American Legion Post 77 in Waveland to box up hundreds of Christmas gifts and goodies for Mississippi troops. (Click here to view the original report.)

WLOX's Hancock County Reporter Al Showers, who has covered the group's work for several years, received the organization's Crystal Wings Award. The prestigious award is given to people who have made major contributions in assisting the group's mission in providing support to our military troops.

The last person to receive the Crystal Wings Award was the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Admiral Mike Mullen. He received his Crystal Wings in November 2008.

The award was presented to Al by the National Legislative Director of the Soldiers' Angels program, Henry Cook, group member Jeanne Grazer and the former commander of American Legion Post 77, Raymond Cuevas.
