JACKSON, MS (WLOX) - Governor Haley Barbour has tapped two south Mississippians to help review how schools are structured in our state, and how to consolidate them to save money and improve efficiency.
You'll remember the governor has proposed consolidating some of the state's 152 school districts to save money. He'd like just 100 school districts in the state.
The governor appointed Pass Christian Superintendent Sue Matheson and Gulf Coast businessman Stephen Renfroe to a special advisory committee. Renfroe, who works at Chevron, has been instrumental in Jackson County's Excel By 5 program.
The committee is under an April first deadline to report back to the governor with ways to maximize educational quality while eliminating waste.
