D'IBERVILLE, MS (WLOX) - Two Ocean Springs men are being held in the Harrison County jail on $1 million bond, charged with aggravated assault for a weekend stabbing outside a D'Iberville nightclub.
The incident left one man in critical condition. Police have warrants for three other suspects and believe more people were involved in the assault.
Arrested and charged with aggravated assault are brothers, 27-year-old Tai Nguyen and 19-year-old Tin Nguyen. They were arrested at their east Ocean Springs home where police also confiscated a cache of weapons, including two assault rifles.
The three suspects wanted by police are 23-year-old Steven Tran, 17-year-old Johnny Tran and 22-year-old Richard Trieu.
The assault victims have only been identified as two young Navy men from Gulfport, ages 23 and 22. The 23-year-old was the most seriously injured, stabbed in the back.
Police believe the fight broke out after the military men began talking with some women.
The assault happened early Saturday morning in the parking lot of Guitars and Cadillacs, a popular night club in D'Iberville. A group that included up to 15 people confronted the two military men.
D'Iberville Police Chief Wayne Payne said, "You all's assistance and the news media assistance led to witnesses coming forward. Those witnesses led us in the direction of the people that committed this crime."
Video from surveillance cameras outside the club also provided critical clues.
"The investigators identified five suspects out of multiple offenders," Payne said. "We've got warrants for those five. And out of those five, we've arrested two. We think it was involving two girls that were there, that were outside, that the victims stopped and spoke to."
"And then following that, what sparked it, we're still trying to put the pieces together on that. This was very serious. We've got a young man fighting for his life today because of what happened at that bar."
Police found more than two suspects when they served a search warrant at their home in east Ocean Springs. Weapons were confiscated. There were two semi-automatic rifles, several magazines and hand guns, one that showed signs of someone scratching off serial numbers.
"We have a 19-year-old that's in possession of firearms. We certainly are going to do everything we can to determine where those firearms were purchased from and why this young man was in possession of them," Payne said.
We asked Chief Payne whether there's been any trouble in the past at this particular night club, which bills itself as the 'largest in Mississippi.'
"We have responded to numerous calls there, yes," Payne answered.
When asked what kind of calls, Payne said, "Fight calls, parking problem calls. And it's been an array of calls."
Police are now looking for any additional witnesses to come forward.
"We're still searching for three, and anybody with information that may assist us in identifying the other individuals that were involved in this crime, are asked to come forward," Payne said.
Guitars and Cadillacs Owner Kenny Davis said while they have had some problems in the past, things have been trouble free lately.
Davis said he has 18 security guards on duty. He said security was called to the parking lot Saturday morning, but when they got outside, everyone involved had gotten in their vehicles and left already.
