JC Animal Shelter hosting Holiday Pet Adoption Day

JACKSON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) - Looking for a Christmas gift that's meaningful and memorable? A furry new family member from Jackson County's Animal Shelter might be the perfect gift.

To help bring more pets and families together the shelter's staff is hosting a special "Holiday Pet Adoption Day" on Saturday, Dec. 19 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Gautier.

"Adopting a pet is about much more than giving a great gift; it's also about saving an animal's life," Animal Shelter Director Bill Richman explained. "This holiday adoption day is a great way to find loving homes for unwanted or abandoned animals."

This adoption day is the fastest and most convenient way to adopt a pet in time for Christmas. The shelter's staff will have a combination of 20 dogs and cats ready for immediate adoption at this special event.

"Each animal at this Holiday Adoption Day has been fixed, given its first round of shots, and has its rabies vaccination certificate. You can also save $15 off the standard cost of adopting at the shelter," Richman explains.

And to make this event picture perfect, Santa Claus will be on hand for photos with all visitors and their pets. The first photo is $10 and $5 for all additional photos.

This is the third year the shelter's staff has organized a holiday adoption day. If you miss Saturday's special event, the County's Animal Shelter will be open to the public with normal hours through Dec. 23.

Only puppies, kittens, and spayed or neutered animals can be taken home the same day they're adopted. All animals are provided with initial vaccinations and preventative worming.

The shelter provides a free health exam with a certificate of examination from the Jackson County Veterinary Society. The Animal Shelter is located off Hwy. 90 in Gautier next to the County's soccer complex.

The Shelter is operated by the Jackson County Board of Supervisors and averages almost 100 pet adoptions each month.

For more information about pet adoptions call 228-497-6350.
