The deployment of troops overseas is having an impact on the Gulfport animal shelter.
Already overcrowded, the Humane Society of South Mississippi is now taking in many more pets from military families.
Troops getting called up are finding no one to care for their pets during deployment. That's why so many are winding up at the shelter. And that's why the shelter is looking for "foster families" to help out.
"So, we're looking for foster homes. People like I said that would be willing to take care of them as their own until these people come back," said Robin Bush, the assistant director at the shelter.
Even without the military family pets, the shelter is already crowded. There's a large number of puppies needing adoption.
