OCEAN SPRINGS, MISSISSIPPI (WLOX) - The Mississippi Vietnam Veterans Memorial Committee joined with Mississippi chapters of the Sons of the American Revolution and the UUnrobedChapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution to conduct a Wreaths Across America Ceremony in Ocean Springs.

Hundreds of faces were covered in raindrops as many came out to remember those who fought for America's freedom.

" As we remember the fallen, honor those who serve and teach our children the value of freedom," says Vietnam Veteran Benard Strong.

Many veterans and active military came out to honor those who have given their lives in service for our country.

"It's very important that we respect the people that are maintaining our freedom," says Benard Strong.

Kayla Camarillo says "I have grown up in a military family my whole life and there always needs to be thanks for them."

Those who gathered at the wreath ceremony observed a moment of silence to remember lives lost during war.

Seven ceremonial wreaths were placed inside the Mississippi Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Ocean Springs.

One wreath was recognized for the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard, Merchant Marines and POW/MIA.

Benard Strong says, "say thank you when you see a uniform service member or if they see a veteran that they know and say thank you because they helped acquire the freedom we enjoy every day."

This annual event is held every second Saturday in December.
