GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) - A family devastated by a single shot gun blast through their kitchen window is now pleading for compassion and information.

Patricia Shivers' son, David, was killed Monday night at their Gulfport home on Halsel Street.

She and her only surviving son Jimmie sat down with me today to talk about the senseless murder. They hope someone with information will come forward and help give them the closure they so desperately need.

David Shivers was a 29-year-old father of two.

"As soon as I looked in his eyes, I knew he was gone," David's brother Jimmie Shivers said.

Jimmie found his only brother David lying in a pool of blood on the kitchen floor in their family's home. Their mom, Patricia, ran in from the living room when she heard the shot.

She said, "I finally found my phone and called 9-1-1, and when I come back in there, there was blood coming all the way dow. It was just a little at first. It's something no one should have to see, being their own son."

A gun shot through her kitchen window Monday night that killed her oldest son, makes Patricia Shivers most sad for his precious children two year old, Tanner, and his big sister, Justice.

"His little girl just turned 5 yesterday."

A daddy's girl, they say she kept asking why he wasn't there for her birthday.

Jimmie Shivers said, "She wants to know why she can't talk to her daddy, you know."

Police have no leads, but they feel it wasn't random. The Shivers were all together eating pizza and watching a movie when he was killed. They, too, say David was targeted but can't understand why.

Patricia said, "If it had been anybody just wanting to do anybody, they could have shot me. I would rather them shot me then him. He's got two little bitty children that need him and love him."

They say David worked hard and focused on his children. He was recently named employee of the month at the Best Western on Highway 49.

Jimmie said, "Two wonderful kids, he works, he comes home and takes care of them."

Jimmie was also his best friend, and he says David had no enemies.

"He's never hurt anybody," Jimmie said. "He's a good person, and it just don't make sense."

Now a suffering mother is pleading for anyone who knows anything to come forward and help police find a cold blooded killer.

Patricia Shivers said, "It was just a long nightmare and kept asking them to wake me up, to wake me up, that it wasn't true."
