Coast Community Grants Wish To Mississippi Teen

Like a typical teenager, Adam Phillips is full of curiosity. But this 13 year old from Pearl has endured more than most people his age. Adam spends most of his days sitting in a wheelchair. Adam suffers from a heart condition called Cardio Miopathy, and a stroke disorder.

His parents decided he needed a vacation. Dan Hatcher is Adam's dad.

"I thought it would be a good time for the family to get together. He had been through so much going to the hospitals, and daily shots and blood tests".

Adam made a wish. He wanted to visit the Mississippi Gulf Coast, especially Pascagoula.

"That's where I was born and I miss it so much. I only stayed a year, and I never knew what it would be like".

Thanks to The Make-A-Wish Foundation, Adam is having a splash, enjoying places like Marine Life in Gulfport.

"I love playing with the dolphins, because I've never seen a dolphin, and it's kinda fun".

As Adam and his dad discover the many attractions in South Mississippi, they are also discovering something else -- the generosity of the people here.

"He's seeing humanity. He's able to see people at their best. People are just coming out, just pouring out their hearts. He has a big heart and he's seeing everybody's big heart," Hatcher said.

Adam, his parents and two brothers have been on the Coast since February 28. Besides visiting Marine Life, they were also treated to a Sea Wolves game, attended Mardi Gras parades, and dined at various restaurants.
