Housing vouchers still available for Katrina victims

GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) – South Mississippians still living in temporary housing because of Hurricane Katrina will soon have an opportunity to move out.

The Department of Housing and Urban Development is offering $80 million in Housing Choice Vouchers. The 10,000 rental assistance vouchers are available to families who were displaced by Hurricanes Katrina or Rita who are living in travel trailers, mobile homes, park models or cottages.

With the HCV program, families generally pay no more than 30 percent of annual adjusted income.

Three upcoming sessions will explain more about the program and how to apply for assistance.

December 7 - Jackson County Housing Resource Center at 4836 Main St., Moss Point, MS

December 8 - Gulfport Housing Resource Center at 1223 30th Ave., Gulfport, MS

December 9 - Wave Center at 454 Highway 90, Waveland, MS

All session are from 4pm to 7pm
