WIGGINS, MS (WLOX) - A three car accident Tuesday night in Wiggins has left two people dead. Stone county coroner Mike Lott has told WLOX two people died in the Highway 49 crash.
One was 22-year-old Ryan Roberts of Pascagoula. Lott says a family member told him Roberts was on his way home from Ole Miss to spend the Thanksgiving holidays with his mother. He says the woman just lost her husband last year.
The other person killed was 36-year-old, Ronald McCollum of Pulaski, Tennessee.
The crash occurred about a quarter mile north of the Dizzy Dean Rest area off Highway 49 in Wiggins.
Officials are still investigating, but what they do know is the pick-up was heading north on Highway 49 in the southbound lanes when it stuck the car. A third south bound car was unable to stop before being caught up in the accident.
The driver of the truck and first vehicle hit were pronounced dead on the scene.
The driver of the third vehicle was driven by 37-year-old Christopher Herrien. He was unable to stop before being caught up in the accident. Herrien was transported to Forrest General Hospital and was treated and released.
Officers from Wiggins Police Department worked the scene along with Mississippi Highway Patrol, Wiggins Fire Department and Stone County EMA.
